PYROLOGY is the third album released by the Texas A&M University-Kingsville Jazz Combos. Along with Dendrology (2022) and Lithology (2023), it completes the “tri-ology” of albums showcasing original work from students in our Jazz Program. This album showcases the remarkable growth of our students during this period by showcasing their sound quality, cohesion, and soloing abilities. The trilogy is anchored by compositions from our exceptional pianist, Joseph Hernandez, who graduated from TAMUK in December 2023. Across the three albums, you’ll find 12 of Joseph’s, most fitting squarely in the modern Jazz Fusion genre. Other compositions on this album explore a range of contrasting jazz styles, including contemporary, bebop, and post-bop.
