DENDROLOGY is the debut album for the Texas A&M University-Kingsville® Jazz Combo program. Musically, most of the album can squarely fit into the “Jazz Fusion” genre, with compositions often featuring the complex harmonic and rhythmic palate often associated with jazz, in combination with a heavy reliance on straight-eighth “grooves.” Rehearsals are generally conducted in a “laboratory” setting where students are encouraged to bring fresh ideas. The music recorded here is the culmination of these experimental endeavors during the 2020-2021 school year and exclusively features original compositions by TAMUK students, six of the eight, and faculty.
